Karch Kiraly, a former American volleyball player, coach, and broadcaster, was a vital component of the US National Team that captured gold medals at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games. In June 1983, he received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from UCLA with a 3.55 overall GPA. His jersey was retired in 1993 after he was honored with entry into the UCLA Hall of Fame in 1992.
