In an unfortunate moment for outfielder, Louisiana Tech hits an inside-the-park grand slam.

A helpless feeling for the Dallas Baptist center fielder, and an inside-the-park grand slam in the Austin regional for Louisiana Tech.

On Friday night, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs defeated the Dallas Baptist Patriots 12-5 in the NCAA Tournament’s Austin regional. And Louisiana Tech’s highlight of the game — and Dallas Baptist’s lowlight — came on a bizarre play that resulted in four runs.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, with two outs and the bases loaded, Louisiana Tech’s Jorge Corona hit a deep flyball that looked very catchable.

Nathan Humphreys of Dallas Baptist, on the other hand, lost the ball in the sky/lights and had no idea where it was. While a helpless Humphreys stood in his usual center field spot, the ball landed on the warning track, resulting in an inside-the-park grand slam for Corona and Louisiana Tech.

Anyone who has played much baseball has experienced a helpless defensive moment with the sky involved, and it’s a nightmare scenario when it’s a big moment in a crucial game. At least in Humphreys’ case, it didn’t seem to make a difference in the game’s outcome; Dallas Baptist was down 7-4 at the time and only managed to score one more run.

While Corona’s inside-the-park grand slam was a cheapie, he also hit a traditional home run earlier in the game and now has 15 home runs on the season:The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs defeated the Dallas Baptist Patriots 12-5 in the NCAA Tournament’s Austin regional on Friday night.
